The way Denny's treats people, they can't possibly have very many customers.
How do they stay in business and advertise with no customers?
Denny's rebuilt a new-style 4020 carb for a neighbor's tractor that ended up worse than when it was removed from the tractor. He said that they were happy and eager to sell parts and repair it, and complete a..holes when he had a problem that they created. I've personally only called them once, and it was an unpleasant experience. There won't be a second call, ever.
A whole bunch of people own old tractors. Old tractors are bought and sold every day. If someone with an attitude and poor service elects not to change their ways, eventually they'll run out of enough satisfied or first time customers to keep the doors open. Word of mouth gets around. Wait about a decade. Some turds float to the top, but all eventually get flushed down.
I can think of a certain "God's gift to green and yellow" tractor guy locally that the internet killed off his parts business when people found out that they could get what they wanted elsewhere for less money and a whole lot less arrogance. It takes some time for them to go away, though.
Advertising brings in new customers. Advertising is also a tax write-off.
Some people tolerate dealing with a..holes. Some seem enjoy the privilege. I don't deal with a.h.'s. Life is too short.
People who make promises they can't keep, who think they are the expert authority on everything, and those who let you repeatedly know that they are the greatest are easily replaced with people who do what they say they will, don't feed you a load of bull, and people who aren't arrogant jerks. Most of these guys need little or no advertising. Word of mouth gets around in good situations, too.
