Jason, You will probably regret it later if you let the tractor be sold now. Leaving it sit for awhile longer is okay but with a few precautions:
Next opportunity you have here's a partial list of things to do...others can add more if I don't get the complete list here:

1. Remove the spark plugs and squirt about a two tablespoons of motor oil in each cylinder/rotate the engine ( with the crank) as the battery is probably shot already. Reinstall the plugs only hand tight.

2. Disconnect and remove the battery from the box. No need to have acid leak out and further damage the battery box or chassie of the tractor

3. Drain the gas tank and the carb. Ensure the gas cap is on tight.

4. Put a can over the muffler so dirt or anything else can't get down in the manifold. Good idea even though it is stored inside.

5. I would jack up and block the tractor up so the weight is off the tires.

6. Depress the clutch pedal and block it with a 2x4 in the disengauged position (Forward), This will help from seizing the clutch disc to the pressure plate.

7. Depending upon your winters...make sure the radiator is protected with antifreeze.

8. Disconnect the coil wire leading to the distributor.

9. Put a tarp over the tractor and secure it, leaving the hand crank in the hole in the front bolster. This is for when you are home on break from school you can go out and turn it over a few times.

I have wished several times that I still had any one of our four farm tractors that were sold in 1969 when my Dad quit farming. I grew up on those tractors and have many memories both good and not so good, as a kid driving those Farmalls. But that's all I have are the memories. Good luck//FB

Today's Featured Article - Choosin, Mounting and Using a Bush Hog Type Mower - by Francis Robinson. Looking around at my new neighbors, most of whom are city raised and have recently acquired their first mini-farms of five to fifteen acres and also from reading questions ask at various discussion sites on the web it is frighteningly apparent that a great many guys (and a few gals) are learning by trial and error and mostly error how to use a very dangerous piece of farm equipment. It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro ... [Read Article]
