I have the same problem on my 1944 M that I bought last year. The top surface of the filler neck was damaged prior to my buying the tractor. Picture shows the damaged , deformed sealing surface of the neck. What is best to do, cut entire neck off and weld in another one from some source? Probably would not be necessary to have one from another M ( or any other tractor for that matter ), a combine tank neck should work. And it may be quite possible that a filler neck from a tank from an old truck or car would work, seems to me that vehicles from way back had gas caps and filler necks that looked similar to what was on old farm tractors.
