I think Redfan is right about that V8 diesel being a 550. Damn poor motor. Low on power so a lot got turbo's put on them and then they ate main and rod bearins like popcorn! I may be wrong but I was told that that motor started out as the 549 gas engine. In that life it did very well .Too much pressure on the bearings. Spent some time in a 190 with the 549 and while it was no power house it did well against the early diesel's and got 3 miles per gallon loaded or empty. My experience with the 550 was a 1468 with a turbo. It made 260 HP but we changed the bearings every year. What a bear when it was running!! Leased a 6030 one year and it was no match for the 1468.
