Well, here is what I was told...southern Maine had a big fire in 1947....shortly there after, land was very cheap ($1/acre), many families bought up large sections of land & one popular use was apple orchards. My tractor was bought in Alfred Maine to be used at an orchard in Lyman, it was used for the apple chores, but, as the value of the land improved, people started selling off the land....around 1950, my tractor went from strickly an orchard tractor to more of a utility tractor & it has a snowblade for winter clearing....it was used as a chore tractor until about 1984 (it's last major service when it got 2 new tires & a clutch)....from then till now, it has been kept in good running condition, but not put to work. It is about the coolest tractor I had seen in a while, so I bought it....a week later, I was able to buy a 1947 Jeep CJ2a.....not having a huge bank account, I had to choose a winter project to invest my time & money into.....we have choosen to keep the Jeep & sell the tractor...my kids are more excited about riding in the Jeep than working on our 9th tractor (I only really use 2 anyway, one to mow & the one w/ the loader). So there you have it....origionally bought for a specific purpose, but, versitile enough to be used for chore duties when that purpose faded w/ the times. 207 450 6184 is my number if anyone wants to come try it out. I'm in southern Maine.

Today's Featured Article - Choosin, Mounting and Using a Bush Hog Type Mower - by Francis Robinson. Looking around at my new neighbors, most of whom are city raised and have recently acquired their first mini-farms of five to fifteen acres and also from reading questions ask at various discussion sites on the web it is frighteningly apparent that a great many guys (and a few gals) are learning by trial and error and mostly error how to use a very dangerous piece of farm equipment. It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro ... [Read Article]
