Jason According to Guy Fay's book, wide front ends were available as a special attachment in January 1940 and there is no serial number suffix indicating a factory installed WFE for a Farmall. On my 47 M's, both WFE axles are cast iron, have a round adjustable tube with a vertical locating pin and a outer housing clamp. The tie rods are in front of the axle and have the special attachment mounting plate which moves the axle toward the rear wheels by about 8". Both of these axles are made by vendors for IH (OEM) and may have not been factory installed. In the early 40's, very few row crop tractors had a WFE, irregardous of the brand. However, many tractors owners, during the useful operating life of the tractor, had the local dealer install a WFE. While this modification may not have been original equipment, the installation was made using OEM components by a factory authorized dealer. Cultivator attachments may not been installed at the time of purchase of the new tractor but, nevertheless, are an intergral OEM component of the tractor.
