Should I replace my head studs??

I have read in several books that whenever an engine is torn down, the head studs should be replaced. The authors say the "stretch" is gone from the studs after several torques. Is this stud replacement really necessary? I know I can make the studs for about half the cost of dealership price. I am assuming these are grade 8. Any advice from the Farmall Experts would be appreciated?
