Well now that you said that, maybe your rod bearings are fine. If it comes down to replacing them, just simply unbolt the lower cap, push the rod up slightly and you will get the upper bearing off real easy. Keep track of which bearing is the upper and lower. I don't like to mix existing bearing halves. I would suggest you take the cap off of number one and pull the bearings and make sure they and the rod journal are not scarred up. When you install either the existing bearings or new ones, torque the two nuts to 16 foot pounds. This is according to the IT manual which built LOTS of tractors. :)
