Bill, You should see a flat surface right above the distributor on the block near the right front of the engine. Don't look too high as you would then be looking on the cylinder head with the spark plugs. On that machined flat is where the engine serial no. is stamped into the block casting and not on a plate like the chassis s/n is on the left side of the tractor noted by Zach. It might be hard to read but you will have to clean the rust off with a wire brush or something most likelly. Unless the original block has been replaced somewhere along the line the numberical engine no. was matched to the tractor s/n for the Farmall H tractors at the factory. Hope this helps, Hal.
