Just recently picked up a C. I make it out to be a late '49 according to the serial #, 39074 and the casting stamps, ranging from 4-8-S (wheel) to 9-21-S (torque-tube). I understand it is a thermo-syphon cooling system on it, but it has neither shutters nor a temp gauge and there are no signs of them ever being fitted. Would those have been optional? The casting stamp on the engine is 9-14-S which leads me to believe it is original. We've dropped the pan to clean it as it's been sitting (shedded) for a couple of years and one of the front centre, pan bolt-holes is stripped. I was wondering whether I should use a heli-coil or one of those plug type inserts that tightens up with tightening up of the inserted bolt, similar to a concrete thread insert. The issue is the aluminum brace that it goes into. I'm leary of cracking it with the plug type because it relies on compression within the part to hold. I've never had much luck with the epoxy thread repair compounds either. Thanks for any help, Markus
