I have just finished the wiring of the delco alternator to my H, as the diagrams I found on this site instructed. I had everything wired wrong, until I found this site. Thanks for being here. The ameter has been switched around, warning light installed between switch and #1 terminal. #2 jumped to bat lug. 12v coil and bat installed. Starts and runs like a top, but when I put digital multimeter on battery get a negative reading, and when alternator disconnected while running engine stops. I at one point did the obviously foolish thing of reverting back to positive ground for an instant to see if it would have corrected earlier problems I had. I realize I may have cooked the alternator with all the incorrect hook ups till now, but also have read something about polarizing generators in earlier messages. Can alternators also have incorrect polariztion and how do I zap it back to life?
