Though I've not personally torn an M down, all the IHC stuff I've gotten into had RH threads on the crankshaft. That is turn it clockwise to tighten,CCW to loosen. If in doubt, clean the visible threads and look for the starting end of the lead thread. Look at which direction the lead thread turns, ie CW for RH threads, CCW for LH threads. Most LH thread nuts, fittings, etc., have notches stamped or cut on the corners.
