Installing NEW plugs in an OLD engine invariably will loosen up some of the carbon in the cylinders, and sometimes a tiny speck of that carbon will get lodged between the spark plug tip and the electrode, thus making that plug non-functional. It is NOT the fault of the spark plug. It is the dirty old engine that caused it. When this happens, just remove the offending plug, clean that little speck of carbon out so there is a gap again, and you're good to go. The reason the OLD Champions worked when you re-installed them is because the carbon had already been knocked loose

Champion spark plugs are the only brand that I have found to occasionally be bad right out of the box.
