DO NOT TIE BOTH VEHICLES TOGETHER! If your tie both vehicles together, you may get SPARKS! It can also damage electronics on the 12V vehicle, if any.
If you need 12V to power the timing light, just connect it to a battery that isn't installed in anything. It should run a timing light for several hours without any problem.
The timing is checked at idle. The timing should be set per the manual, which I don't have, but it should be somewhere very close to TDC. These old tractors don't use much initial advance, if any at all. Check the mechanical advance by raising the rpm's and watch the pointer for a change.
