SMTA - HY TRAN on the ground!

In anticipation of replacing what ever was in there with Genuwine Hy Tran, I drained the rear end,TA, and Transmission of my SMTA. I thought what the hey I'll change the 10 wt oil in the live PTO while I'm at it. Put the plugs back in the tran/TA/rear end, poured in the recommended 15 gals of Hy Tran(boy they are prouud of that stuff!) Returned to the tractor 5 minutes later and discovered Hy Tran seeping - rather rapidly- from around the PTO shaft. Put a bucket under to collect fluid, then removed top plug from PTO housing and was greated by a steady flow of Hy Tran, so far over 5 gallons has drained out of PTO. It is pretty obvious that a seal has failed between the differential and the PTO unit that allows rear end fluid to pass into and through the PTO. (I never had a chance to replace the 10 wt oil.) What am I looking at here to make it all better? Can the seals be replaced by working through the PTO unit? Really don't want to break tractor or take off the transmission deck. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Maybe I shouldn't have messed with it, the old stuff didn't leak as fast!
