I now have enough information to fix the problem! The 4 position switch is not correct for a voltage regulator system. (by the way some Cutout relays had the same box as a VR, and 3 wires as well!) If yours is a new VR, here is the scoop:: Do not use the terminal labeled Voltage regulator. connect the F terminal of the VR to the F terminal of the Generator directly. The F terminal is the smaller of the two on the gen. Connect the Bat lead of the VR to the amp gauge (opposite the lead that goes to the starting switch.) Connect the Arm, or GEN terminal of the VR to the Arm terminal of the Gen. (bigger gen terminal)
The Remaining terminals are just fine. Power in to the same side of the Amp gauge as the Bat wire from the VR.
Tail light, and headlight. are good to go.
The switch will have 2 OFF positions far CCW, and the next position CW from there. D and B should be fine for the lights. Jim
