We've got a 560 diesel that has been in the family since the middle 1960's. It has always been a hard starting tractor. The best tip I can give you is to make sure the battery is fully charged so that the engine really spins over when starting. Also, don't be afraid to hold down the glow plug button for a long (one minute plus) time. My dad had a similar problem with a 460 diesel and he took out the six volt batteries and replaced them with 2 twelve volt batteries. His starting problems were eliminated. If you do change the batteries, be advised that the six volt batteries are wired in series. 2 twelves will require some fabrication of battery cables so that they can be wired in parallel. Also, make sure your glow plugs are working. Send me an email sometime and let me know what you ended up doing to solve your problem.
