Need a little help.
Last fall my generator quit working, had it rebuilt, put it back on the tractor, polarized it according to the IT manual. Cranked up the tractor thought all was well, it was charging. I cut the tractor off, a few seconds later a little smoke was coming out of the back of the generator, the key was turned off. I grabed a meter to find I had 12 volts coming back from a stuck relay inside the regulator, as I got the generator wire unhooked.
I cranked the tractor up a second time to make sure the generator would still charge. It did but the contacts on the voltage regulator were open this time but I no longer trusted the regulator.
Put a new regulator on it, now it will not charge and the contacts in the new regulator still stick.
F wire from Generator to F connector on regulator. A wire from generator to A connector on regulator. Batt from regulator to Amp Gage. L from regulator to lights or where ever it has always went.
What should I check other than to make sure the regulator is really grounded well?
