Because the new points are junk wright out of the box. Back a few years ago i got several sets of points FROM CASE I H that would not work at all , i do not care what you did they would not make contact thru the contact tips but would spark off the arm . I tryed every trick in the book . even got a set from Tisco that did the same thing . Every spring i would make a service call on a CUBBY owned by a little old lady and service it for the mowing season . She insisted on a tune up every spring , new plugs points cap and rotor every other year as she wanted her Cubby to run well. This one year i went to her place armed with everything to do the job . Changed oild and filter serviced the air cleaner replaced the year old plugs that still looked new from last year and installed NEW points and cond. Went to start it and no start . This does not happen top me . Well this time it did and i start to check and yep you got it no spark at the points . Must be grease or oil on the new points , I'll fix it opened the points up and washed them off with either . run my diamond file across them still no spark . Did it again and still no spark. Put old points back in and it fires wright up . . Off i go and get a nother set and stuff them in and it fire up wright now . Took the new set back to the Case I H store and they gave me a new set . They could not believe that that set was bad but none the less that set went into the trash can. A couple nights later my buddy comes to the shop that he and i shared and he was going to install a NEW set of points into his old 450 and guess what that set did the same thing no spark , Now get this he is the parts manage at the SAME CASE I H store that i get MY parts from. We found 9 sets of defective points in that batch of points.
