Yeah, and at full output it couldn't have been much more than barely adequate to run the baler... You could get around 50HP out of the PTO shaft on a stout 400.
On top of that, the Electrall isn't "live" PTO since it runs off the belt pulley drive gear.
The 1950s were chock full of all sorts of crazy ideas. I'm sure IH intended this to replace PTO driven equipment as a safer, lower-maintenance alternative... No shaft to get tangled up in, and no U-joints to fail.
...I wouldn't be surprised if using the electrall as a backup generator at the barn was only an afterthought for the designers...
