Everything you said is true. However, that condenser--both the CIH and NAPA versions--is the listed condenser for the IH distributor on 12V C-123 engines as well as 6V. The difference between 6V and 12V does not mean much to a capacitor (very unlike coils). I have been using the IH200 condenser with a NAPA IC13 coil with ICR13 external resistor and, more recently, with the IC14SB coil and no external resistor on my 12V 140. Probably about 20 years on each setup. I believe these are correct combinations and so does my NAPA guy. Are we wrong?


If you have had good results for 20 years, I sure wouldn't worry now. Fact is, they will run even if condenser size is off by 100:1, but as Bob said, "for good point life", the correct value is best. Problem is, how do you determine that when using non-OEM components? It would take a long time of observation & incremental increasing/decreasing condenser values to find the sweet spot where buildup/crater changes from one side to the other, then back off a bit. Not practical.
