I agree with armand... the separate pump is the best option. Dad had a JD 60 with a CharLynn torque motor (or torque generator) and a Saginaw (GM) pump and it worked perfectly. I have an IH 240U with CharLynn and a priority flow divider valve and although it's better than no PS, it is not consistant and is jerky. Also when idled down, it robs enough flow from the system that the 3 point does not work right.
Having worked for a hydraulics manufacturer for 38 years (25 in the engineering dept.) I can tell you that if hydraulic components are not "matched" properly, they can cause a lot of headaches... in this case the PFDV is the one that will cause problems. Within a designed range of flow, it will "tap off" a set flow to the "priority"port and the remainder to the "secondary"... notice this is "within a designed range"... not "no matter how much flow you put through it". There are companies that make adjustable PFDVs, but these are not generally used in power steering systems, as there are too many people that would "play" with them that do not know what they are doing.
