Kip, What you have found is definitely not a cotton picker if it is a two row. The only tractor mounted cotton pickers were all one rows except for a few experimental pickers in the mid 50's and these were all returned to IH. If what you have found is a two row, it must be a cotton stripper. However since you say the tractor runs backwards, I suspect it is a one row cotton picker. It should have 14 spindles on each bar in the head with bars on both sides of the opening to pick one row. In either case, if you tractor is reversed, your tractor will have a reversable transmission top. Look around the farm sheds where you found it and you may find another set of shift forks. If not they will not be hard to find in a salvage yard. The reverse forks in yours now would be hard to find if someone needed them. You have to remove the transmission top and flip the differential chunk and swap the shift rails and move the shift lever to the other side. A regular tricycle front will bolt on the same four bolts where your single front wheel is. If you keep your single front wheel when you reverse your tractor back to normal, don't forget to turn the front wheel around so the tractor will track. The Farmall 504 was built from 61 to 68. It has 41.30 drawbar hp and 46.20 pto hp. with a 152.1 cu in engine and is a very good tractor. While you are looking around the sheds for the shift forks you may also find the three point hitch parts and possibly a tricycle front if where you found it was the original owner. Harold H
