My SM's are '54 (SMTA) but may be plumbed like the '53s.
There are 3ea 1/2" ports facing the rear on the reservoir. Seems like most SMTA"s use the top port. Run a hydraulic hose to a two spool open center valve. Run the return to a tee at the filler plug or a tee at the big hose at the bottom.
You probably know how to plumb the cylinders.
To energize the two spool valve, pull the Lift-All lever back. It will stay engaged unless the pressure kicks it out. You can override the "kick-out" by turning the little clip where the lever enters the reservoir.
I always buy three spool valves so that I have an extra one for whatever. I mount it in a vertical position on a homemade bracket bolted to the frame lid. It is located to the left of the battery box.
