Oil Pressure?

My '48 Super A has an apparent oil pressure problem. After it has run for an hour or two the gauge needle is down in the red area if the engine is at less that full throttle. The engine is very quiet, no bearing noise, and runs great with just a little blue smoke now and then.
I intend to check the pressure with a numbered gauge but don't know what the pressure should read. If the gauge is not defective then the next thing is to check the oil pump for wear. I really don't think the bearings are bad from the way the engine sounds. I am runing 30 weight oil. Any other ideas?
