Bo, First let me tell you that I have never done what I am about to suggest. This aside, I have seen the set up and as I understand the circuit, both spark plugs are fired at the same time. Only one plug is on compression and fires and nothing occurs at the other plug other than it firing and on the next cycle it just repeats except that it fires the alternate plug. The reason for the two high tension outlets is just for convenience to accommodate both high tension wires. A car coil with a single high tension outlet should work if you do a little improvising. All you need to do is determine how to connect both plug wires to the one high tension outlet. If you get some spark plug wire that has a wire core instead of carbon you could make a wire arrangement that looks like the letter Y and put the base into the coil and run the top parts to each plug. You could also get a brass screw and place it in the coil outlet and put eyelets on the wires and mount them to the screw. It may be necessary to epoxy the screw into the coil outlet. Jaguar cars run two coils on their 12 cylinder engines in order to create high voltage for the 12 cylinders at high RPMs. The Onan does not turn fast enough, nor have enough cylinders, to require the voltage to be that high. Post your results so that we all may share in your repair.

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
