Well Andy my first contact with the gas start diesels were back in 1962 on construction equipment and this how we did it , When started in the morning they were warmed up for 10-15 min and then put to work and allowed to idle while on breaks and for lunch time , At the end out the day it was time to clean tracks grease and fule up and they sat and idled for up to 45 min. if your tracks were packed with mud while you dug them out and the tempture gauge would be down in the cold zone As this is what the Owner wanted and this is how my boss explained it to me along wiht the old time mechanics and i figured that since i was the young pup back then i would keep my mouth shut and listen to the OLD guys as they knew more then me and that is how i have always ran any of the gas start diesels that i have had . YA treat them like your best girl friend as ya warm them up slow work them up good and HOT and cool them down slow and they will serve ya well for many many years .As burning a little fuel for warm up and a good LONG cool down is a lot less then a cracked block or a head.
