Unfortunately you have to remove the pump to replace the seal. Be sure to mark exact location of pump on the mounting flange before loosening any mounting bolts. DO NOT loosen cap screws on pump drive gear. You only have to remove big nut on pump drive shaft via the access hole in the front of the pump drive gear cover. DO NOT rotate pump drive shaft when you have it removed, if you do rotate drive shaft then rotate it 2 revs in direction of travel.
Good luck

thanks jimB,, I have actually heard this prior, I think you actually suggested it on my first post, thansk,,
is there a way to check that or is it just hit and miss and hope that is teh trouble,, I am sure once it is off I will see if it is cracked or ripped,,
Is this a fairly simple replacement, my book only shows the removal of the unit procedures, but I looked up caseih parts and it seems pretty straight forward,, retaing clip, nut and all in front should come out??
then replace seal and reverse order,, any thing special I would need to look out for?
