Tommy D, IH 454. (1970/1973) Has a 157 CI gas engine and PTO HP is rated 40, Independent PTO w/ both 540 and 1000 RPM shafts, (Independent PTO is operated by a lever on the RH side of the seat, behind the 3pt control levers, and can be turned on/off independent of the foot clutch, and is hydraulically operated). The foot clutch in NOT a 2 stage. The transmission is a four speed synchronized with "Lightning" shift lever and the hi/lo/rev lever seperate which gives 8 speeds forward and 4 speeds in reverse, and in 4th hi is approx 22MPH. This is a very good trans, but the external linkage is prone to looseness/wear. (Trans is nothing like Ford SOS). Great loader tractor. Tractor also has hydrostatic power steering, (no mechanical link to the front wheels, can be steered w/o engine running, but is hard). Final drives are through planetary gears (as opposed to bull gears), and it is equiped with master cylinder type hydraulic wet disc brakes. (master cyls are kept full by a portion of the return oil from the front mounted hyd oil cooler) The 3 pt hitch and hydraulics are live, w/ the hitch having two control levers, one for position and the other for draft settings, In conjunction w/ the draft control is a raise rate control. (can be adjusted to take jerkiness out of the hitch in draft setting). The operator manual has good explanation on all hitch settings. This is a very modern tractor w/ features many current built tractors do not have, and if in good shape, as you describe, price is good. The S/N tag is located on LH side of the transmission housing approx ankle high just behind the clutch pedal, and do not confuse it with the skid unit plate which is on the side edge of the clutch housing in front of the clutch pedal.
