We bought our International 454 diesel utility new in May of 1972 (do not know the range of years produced). It has about 41 or so HP, a very reliable tractor (never have had any engine work done on it). The S/N is on the side of the tractor above the foot step, I believe on the left side (if you are sitting in the seat, look down at your ankle bone -- it should be there between your legs...)

It came with both a 540 live PTO and 1000 live PTO (look at the back end and see if there are two PTO shafts on it (one may be covered ). Not sure what you mean by two stage clutch, it either in or out, no intermediate, and it had both live hydraulics and PTO. Ours had one set of hydraulics.

I have pulled a 2 bottom 3point plow over many acres, a 10 ft cultimulcher, 7' 3 point scraping blade, and we used a 6 foot sidewinder rotary mower on the pastures. For the first 5 or so years of it's life, it was our only tractor, so we did EVERYTHING with it - including the baling with a JD 24T baler with thrower (try pulling a baler and a full hay wagon around the hills of SW Penna!)

I have not looked to see what it is worth - we paid about $5000 then with trading in our old 340, and it would I guess it would sell for something around there, if not a bit more. Other values, guys??

Only two things I did not like about it -- one was the utility configuration put the exhaust right in your face when you are hooking up implements (or driving down a dusty road you could be seen a mile away!) The other thing was that the "tool box" was positioned directly above that dang muffler! Could it have gone on the OTHER side -- yes, but hey -- where else can you go to get a scalding hot wrench on a hot summer day??? We installed an external toolbox on the front side rail, and that worked just fine (used the "hot box" to keep a light chain in it)

Wouldn't trade it in for anything -- it is a keeper! Anything else you would like to know??? Good luck, Don

The transmission fluid in an “N”:-series tractor lubricates the transmission, differential, rear wheel bearings, PTO and hydraulic pump drive, and it also cats as the working fluid for the hydraulic lift. In 9N/2N models, it also lubricates the steering sector and shaft system. The owner’s manual for the 9N and 2N models specified the use of only two fluids.
