HTH you were on a good track with the R91 theory. Unfortunately, IH considered lip seals to be assemblies. Under the R number system, they are pretty well all R9x.

Here is the process I went through:

I found the same 3 numbers in the Super A manual as the rest of you. Thought the 140 may have essentially the same seal with a newer part number, since the manual was newer. Found the number 273563R91.

Then went to Messick's and typed in 53599D. They said superceeded by 38220R91. Clicked on that number, and they listed all the above numbers as superceeded by it (at $12.xx).

On a hunch, I checked that number in the ATIS Cub FAQ. Found the same number listed for the same application on the Cub. Listed cross references:

Federal Mogul 472070

National 14702, 472070

CR 18104 (use 2)

National 470267SSR

CR 512309BT

These crosses are what various CUb owners have found that worked for them. I have found CR 512309BT in an IH reference. Check the dimensions, but that is probably what you need.

NAPA crosses 18104 to

Seal I.D. : 1.8130"

Seal O.D. : 2.6270"

Width : .3130"

and it isn't any cheaper than Messick's.
