This fall I purchased a Black Stripe 966. It has about 4000 hrs. showing which may or may not be accurate. It"s a good tractor and I like it but of course it has some problems. The thing I need some advice on today is the PTO. When you engage the PTO at slow idle, nothing happens. If you rev it up some then it"s fine and can take a pretty good load. We have used it for grinding feed this winter and it handles that with no problem. My son-in-law tried to run corn stalks thru the grinder with a small screen in place and it killed the engine. SO, I would think the clutch is OK. I just don"t understand why it won"t engage at slow engine speeds. Is this a hydraulic pressure problem? The hydraulics seem to run everything else very well. BTW, I have checked the fluid level and replaced the filter. Or could it be just the very cold weather this winter. I plan to use the tractor for haying so the pto is very important.
