I recently rebushed the front end on my '53 SH. Here's a quick step by step:
1 - Jack the front end by jacking under the flywheel housing. (Block the rear wheels and crib the front end as required for your safety!)
2 - Remove the lower bolster/front wheel assembly. Note which bolster flange hole has the extended head stop bolt in it - this bolt MUST go back in the same hole at reassembly!
3 - Take off the steering pot cover and remove the castle nut from the bolster pivot shaft.
4 - Knock the bolster pivot shaft free from the worm gear and lower it out of the tractor. The gear is on a tapered spline - takes a good lick to break it free of the pivot shaft.
5 - Clean, inspect and lube the large thrust bearing (ball bearing) on the bottom of the pivot shaft.
6 - Knock out the old shaft seal and chisel out the upper and lower bushings.
7 - Install new bushings and seal. Then reassemble the front end. Recommend you pack the steering pot full with a good grade of grease - not gear oil as spec'd in the service book.

Note: New bushings completely eliminated the floppy steering on my SH!
