I was told by a man who painted tractors for IH/McCormick/Farmall, that when he painted the tractors, that they were all on steel wheels, at least the letter and number series, and that they were running and in low gear going down the line with some kind of lock on the steering. The steering wheels were installed at about the same time as the decals, the rubber tires, the charging system and the guages. So the way that I understand it, the plug wires, mag, radiator hoses, shutters, pto shaft, and everything else would have been painted red. Want some proof? Take the shifter knob off of an old rusted Farmall H in the junk yard sometime. Thats what I was told by my friend. Just thought I would throw in my two cents. All the respect and kudos to those who restore their tractors to "better than new" but if you want to be "correct" than your definition of correct may differ from the next guy!!! It's YOUR tractor. Do what makes YOU happy!!!
