The engines are the same C-60. I asked this same question on cub.com .

I was told that there isn't any differance other then the pistons ! The pistons have a off set piston pin location from that of a older cub.

The newer motor has higher compression and the rpms are turned up.

Based on the info that was given to me i bought a head off E-bay and cut it. I set it up in a Bridgeport and ended up cutting .060 off the deck , .040 to get it flat and .020 extra.

The results are great, i turned up the rpm 200rpms "wow".

Last summer a friend has a yellow 185 low boy that the motor needed to be rebuilt in , the head and rods are the same as the standard cub .

On hand held GPS the mph in 3rd was 9.8 mph [stock]. Now with the cut head and 200 rpm more it runs in third at 13 mph.

I plow alot of snow with it and really notice the differance and have used it a hole year so far and zero problems.

If you get a chance pull the exhaust manifold off it and look at the mismatch in ports.

My dads was as much as .312 [5/16] off, we port matched to the exhaust gasket. Can't say weather it made a big differance but it couldn't hurt. Seems to run smoother !
