YEs there were hardened bushing in the holes and most have fallen out over the years . SOOOOoooo what i have been doing is making up Bronze bushing and pressing them in with a .003 interferance fit . Both side of each bushing must be champhered and have just enough clearance so you have no spring bind. One of my old customers and good friend is a clock maker and has all the neat small tooling in his basement to make them up . This all stared one day when he was behind on field work and asked if i could help him work ground , he farms about 165 acres with a S/MTA a WD 45 Allis and a 8 N ford all bought new on this farm . Now a week before i had may S/MTA over helping him plow as i was trying o clean up several sets of model 60 plows that i picked up at a sale and wanted to get them looking good before i put them up for sale . Well i was disking with his S/MTA pulling a 10 foot disc and it was real slugish . Not much gov. action . Well forgive me but things must work wright with me and i stopped and had to open up the gov.and found what was wrong and tore into it and stopped all operations , Told Billy that this was the problem and we went down into his basement and in less then a hour had everything made and installed did the carb to gov. scyn opened up the fuel a turn and half checked the timing and set it and put the tractor back in the field and instead of struging up and down the humps and bump in third it was now doing it in forth . Made a new tractor out of it . When he put it on the grinder mixer she did not die while grinding ear corn . He told me that it had never ran that good in all the years that he has had it.
