About the coil cover gasket, did you try installing it in different positions to see it the holes lined up better? The gasket is not perfectly square, it is slightly rectangular, if the holes don"t line up, try rotating the gasket a quarter turn and see if it is any better. You say the spark is thready and weak, how big of a gap will the spark jump? The spark should jump a quarter of an inch or more. I assume you timed the two gears properly?
While I do have a magnet charger, it is not powerful enough to recharge the permant magnet of the H4 magneto. But since the H4 has a PERMANT magnet, it really does not have to be recharged. The magnetos prior to the H4 with a non-permant "horseshoe" magnet are the ones that should be recharged.
