Thank you for the compliments. I found a ratcheting Rigid flare tool ( 1/2 to 1 inch ) on eBay for about $50, and it did a great job making the flares with very little effort. Soft steel tubing is pretty easy to work. I'm planning to run a couple more lines to the rear to make remote couplings for a log splitter, so the tool was justified.
Have to admit I didn't hit the second piece on the first try . . .
