Jammed starter is a good bet, as mentioned in another post below. Accumulated wear sometimes allows this to happen. If the thing was running well, with no noises, and has a history of good oil pressure, I'd bet it will turn out to be a relatively minor problem. M tractors are TOUGH! Can you hear the starter try to engage? Have you checked to see if the starter is receiveing power? If the starter is jammed, it is sometimes possible to free it by putting the tractor in 5th gear, and rocking the tractor BACKWARDS enough to make the fan move.
