Hi y'all I've had this 63 B414 diesel for a couple of months and it's been running great, but it's always hard to start. There are no glow plugs and the guy I bought it from showed me his method for starting: waving a diesel-soaked rag in front of the breather while turning it over. So far, so good. I haven't had to cold-start it, thank goodness, since I'm in the deep south and it's never really cold.
The last few times I've tried to crank it there's been a hissing sound at the battery and I've noticed molten lead accumulating around the positive terminal. This morning that happened, and when I hit the starter again I heard a buzzing sound for a moment and then nothing. I'm afraid the electrical system may be fried, but I don't know where to begin checking things out. I do not even know if the battery is the right size - right now I have a 12V battery on there, which is what came with it, but I've heard of folks using batteries in series. I've also read some posts on this forum about the positive/negative ground issue, and I'm wondering if the guy I bought it from had it wired correctly?

As simple as a box plow appears, it can be rather challenging to make work correctly. In our sandy soils of Florida, traction is king. You can never have wide enough tires or heavy enough weights to get all the traction you want … unless you own a monster tractor. U
