Ok, well I finally got the carb off. I had to remove the above mentioned pipe out of the block and replace it with a 3/8ths plug, then I was able to remove the carb as one normally would.
I got her opened up and discovered the source of my grief. The little rod that the float pivots on had worked its way out of the two little arms that it slides through. One of the arms is cracked, so the rod slides freely side to side.
I'm not sure how to go about fixing this little beast now, except for maybe a touch of the old JB weld to hold the rod secure. Thoughts?
