rebuilding left side final drive for my SA at this moment... needed a fan belt so that $12 is in here too... inner bearing, upper and lower seals, Diff housing seal, $85. If the outer bearing would have been bad (the inner is) tack on another $61. On top of that is $12 / gal gear lube...

Just the price of doing business... a farm is a business... prices are prices.. when a hobbyist begins to "restore" for show and not use prices come as a sticker shock.

price reflects volume... in most cases... but the margin is also greater IMO.

I can walk into my local IH dealership and choose from CIH packaged brake discs for the 560 or A&I packaged... price difference? $43 / ea for the CIH brand, $16 / ea for the A&I....

Now you really want sticker shock? take the hard lines for the Tel-A-Depth system running the fast hitch on a 560... You can still buy these, brand new... They rot out beneath the seat base due to dirt and moisture collection... I end up brazing them with brass... PITA... but I can take it apart and braze it a LOT for $660.... yep.. 2 lines with mounting block on one end to valve and a square manifold on the eother... $660...

Today's Featured Article - The Rescue of a Fordson F - by Anthony West. Introduction I live in the UK and have for many years restored Fordson tractors (in the main model N's). I have also restored and shown model F's, E 27N's, Field Marshall Series 2, David Brown Cropmasters and the old rey Fergeson T 20. At one time I had seven restored examples which were shown and used in ploughing matches. As most restorers, I have a number of war stories I can relate on a range of topics that may help other like minded and interested people. Perhaps my first p ... [Read Article]
