Adjusted the TA linkage on the 986 today by the book - so the snap ring just barely contacts the MCV in DD. The problem was, after that, in TA there was only about 15/16" of valve spool exposed, not the 1 1/8" the book calls for. So I took the tractor for a spin- when shifted into DD, it engaged with a thump (like it should), but when shifted into TA, it freewheeled. I found that at this point, I could reach down with the floor panel removed and manually lift the selector valve, and the TA lockup clutch would catch. After talking with the mechanic, I adjusted the linkage to achieve the 1 1/8" measurement in TA, which means the snap ring doesn't contact the MCV in DD. But it seemed to work properly on the test drive. Shifting into either DD or TA, I can feel the corresponding clutch solidly engage. Is the tractor now safe to use without damage to the TA clutches? Should I measure operating pressures to make sure? If so, how would I do that? btw it's a mechanical diode TA, less than 100 hours on it.
