Cam gear sounds most likely or broken cam because a head gasket would not probly blow unless you were pulling it hard.If you take the valve cover off and all the valves are moving it might be the key in the cam gear that broke.You could check your timing and see if both valves on number 1 are closed when the marks for TDC are lined up if not at first turn it around again,if not by then its probly the key broke and gear slipped out of time.
