Thanks, Bob More detail. I took the tractor down for a new carb, change liquids, fan assembly, etc a couple weeks ago. I took the neg battery cable off for safety. When I brought it back up I polarized the battery as usual. I startd it up and plowed snow for 2 hours at full throttle. It would never charge. With lights on I had 18 amp discharge. I took gen off and checked for loose wires etc. Had an old mechanic check armature and he said it was ok. Put it back on tractor today. Forgot to polarze and ran tractor a few minutes before I remembered. Shut it down and polarized. Brought it back up and went thru the Melville flow diagram with tactor at 1/2 throttle. That's where the amp gauge buried itself on discharge when I put a jumper between the BAT and GEN terminals and also when I grounded the Field. Now, I just tried what you suggested with tractor at 1/2 throttle I grounded the Field. The amp gauge buried itself on the discharge side and remained there until the jumper was removed. Dean
