i have a 51 c and some things you might check are
1. drain and refill the tranny (the 90 wieght oil in mine had turned to jelly and took alot of work to clean out)
2. remove and clean the hydraulic filter and put new fluid in it (4 small bolts on side of hydraulic casing under the gas tank hold metal filter screen in place you will need a gasket propably)
3. change you oil again soon as the detergent in the oil will have cleaned out much gunk from your motor and it will be sitting in the filter now.
4. get a new gasket and screen for the fuel bowl
5. inspect/repack front wheel bearings (need gaskets for this too)
these things are important if the tractor has been sitting or not well maintained for a while (which is very common) do not be suprised if the tranny fluid is in very bad shape! i went through almost 10 gallons of diesel before i got mine only reasonably cleaned out. the crazy thing is these old tractor make enough gear whine that you will assume that everything is fine so you gotta check! 5 gallons of 90 wieght only costs 15 to 18 bucks in bulk. good luck to you and it ia always good to see an old tractor find someone who loves it.

The nuts and bolts of nuts and bolts is an interesting and essential piece of knowledge that applies to our older tractors. An improperly torqued capscrew on an engine head or a shear bolt that is too hard on the driving shaft of a bushog can create havoc and make an expensive and uncalled for repair. Let’s examine the purpose and design of these fasteners in order to ensure their proper use. Fasteners are probably one of the aspects of mechanics that is given the least amount of thought. ...
