Aaron, I'll attempt to address your concerns to the best of my ability. First, this event was never intended to be a tractor show (this year, or any year). The few tractos there were for atmosphere. In my understanding, the winter conventions are about socializing with fellow collectors, small parts, seminars, and tours. An auction is usually held to provide entertainment, and Kurt did an excellent job in that role. This convention, and all past winter conventions have been held inside at major hotels. The winter weather dictates that. They had a major snowstorm out at last years convention. The particular hotel chosen for this years convention was used because it was the only one in the Dayton area large enough to meet the requirements for a convention of such magnitude. The Dayton area was selected because of it's proximity to Springfield for the tours of the Navistar truck plant. Also, utilizing major hotels for such events naturally dictates that they will be held in, or near, the city. This event, and all past winter conventions, had to be self-supporting financially. When an organization expects hotel management to give them conference rooms and the large vendor area, in exchange for guaranteeing a certain number of rooms to be booked, of course the room rates are going to be on the high side. Finally, I am unfamiliar with the Moline Conventions you refer to, but I suspect they are, and always have been, promoted as a different type of event. Remember, the Red Power Roundups are the big summer tractor show for the IHC Collectors. I'm sure you won't be disappointed out at Sandwich, Illinois this summer.
