Thanks, Dave, for chiming in. This is the last leak on my BN and it's running me nuts.
My BN (a family tractor that got out of the family for a few years . . .) needed just about every bearing and seal replaced. This is the one I couldn't get apart. The left side was fine, but I couldn't get the bearing cage out of the right side without breaking something. I've gone at it twice. No idea what's gong on there. She'll come away, but she won't come out. That bearing is the noisiest thing on the tractor, so it needs to be replaced, but I'm about out of ideas about how to get at it. I can't imagine that bearing cage will be an easy thing to replace if I bust it.
I thought about having the tranny overfilled, but I cleaned it out pretty well when I had her torn down, and only refilled (tranny first, PTO after) until the drain plug wept.
With the double seals, I thought I might be off the worn spot on the shaft, but she still leaks just sittin' still, and was hopin' that somehow getting a sealant in between the shims might be the answer.
But I'm open to any ideas!!! I have lookd into the speedy sleeves. As clean as the shaft is, I'm not sure they'll be the answer, and I can't rule them out before I'm done.
But I still need to get into that bearing. Grrrrr. 8^(
