Dear Mike, I'm going to try to convince you to use the distributor it has. The intended use of the tractor (if I paraphrase you correctly) is to show it, drive it in parades, and hay rides upon occasion. A mag has disadvantages, 1} It (because of age and complexity, and that it has more moving parts to get out of specification) provides no more reliability. 2} The mags used have no timing advance mechanism. The timing goes advanced upon the starting of the engine, and resides at a position that is a compromise between idle advance, and full load advance. This results in a poor idle (rough and noisy on the rain cap) with the appearance of poor operation. 3} The compromised timing also pollutes more during idle and low speed operation, and has less total power and fuel efficiency compared to a distributor. 4} Distributors are considered stock in that so very many were offered as options, and as replacement for mags. I feel the effort to change it to a mag would result in disapointment. If nostalgia makes it happen I will keep my fingers shut on the topic. Thanks for hearing me out, Jim
