The Mag will fit. The distributor will provide better running and idling because it controls the timing as a function of RPM. The Mag will however start the tractor without a battery. Remember if you use the mag, it is not connected in any way to the electrical system. The ignition On OFF switch is not interchangeable between the Dist, and Mag. The one it has now provides power to the Coil when out, and is open when in. If it is changed to a mag. The On Off switch is a grounding switch that grounds the mag to stop the tractor when pushed in. good luck, JimN
